FYI it's cold out there

Starting at 7:30 am Saturday December 20th and continuing this winter when the temps are low, group stationary bike training rides will take place at the Cathedral of the Risen Christ Gym located at 3245 S 37th St, aka 37th & Sheridan Blvd. Bring your bike, stationary trainer, something to protect the floor from your stand (mat, towel) and some change as a free will for lights. Monsignor Tucker has made this location available. We will have a big screen showing cycling DVDs. You can come as early as 7:00 am to set up, and we will be ending around 9:30 and out by 10:00 am. Feel free to come and go as you please during the session.
The Gym floor needs to be protected. Please remove your shoes if they have cleats. Thanks, and hope to see you there.

taco ride

kevin, janna, katie, lindsey, and i went up for the taco ride last night. we had a pretty good time avoiding the drunks. right as i was taking the top photo of the girls, this one guy (probably drunk) wiped out on the gravel as he turned into mineola (you can see his bike lying on the ground in the right side of pic). as he got up and dusted himself off he kept saying "what can i say? i saw the ladies and was trying to show them a move." we avoided the drunkfest in mineola and went on to silver city for some great burgers at the only bar in town. the ride back in the dark beneath a gorgeous star-filled sky was quite nice. as we neared mineola we again had to pass some of the stragglers, heading back to council bluffs to their cars with i hope a few sober designated drivers among them. kevin was almost taken out by a drunken lass, but we all made it back ok. did she atleast give you her name kev?

Taco Time...

Well, it's that time of year again. Time to plan on attending the Thursday Taco Ride in Omaha. With the weather patterns the way they are, the sooner the better or we will be riding in parkas.

So, my thought is that we do it next Thursday (9/25/2008). The only thing that will really need to be worked out would be transportation, so we can decide that when we know who will be attending. I'm hoping to see the same people as last year, plus some new faces.

If you know anyone who you think would like to attend, fill them in on all the details and get them to come along. Send me an email if you are planning on attending and I will get an email chain going with everyone involved. Maybe we can get some of the Omaha people to meet us out there too. That means you Algomaha, and Munson, and Miles, and everyone else...

P.S. The only excuse for not attending will be if you have been run over by a truck. Even then, that would be questionable. ;)

Junior riders will race in one of the following age categories: 10-12, 13-15, and 16-18. Juniors will race together for the two laps, but separate medals will be awarded for each category.

Also of note, First time racers receive 50% off the entry fee. A discount code is necessary; more information is available on the registration page at sportsbaseonline.com. Please note the discount is for race entry fee only and does not apply to one day licenses. One day licenses must be purchased in order to participate and are also available online.

fixie faas

yep, the faas man made an appearance tonight on his fixie with a 47x17. once we turned around he could kept it pegged at 25mph the whole way. not bad there jason. and newcomer kaelly had fun too, though she hasn't been on her new bike long she is no slouch. i think she even enjoyed that killer headwind on the way south. she's a future triathlete star that's for sure. and ofcourse we all rendezvoused for margaritas at the usual place afterwards.

Y'all still ride Wednesdays?

Is there a ride today? If so, I might be able to be there. Post up the time and place. And I'm not talking about the world championship ride. I have no business with that this year. Besides, I'll be on the fixie.

after breakfast, we rode a few miles with nate and the crew.

as we all left janna's dinner party last night (btw, thanks janna for inviting everyone over, i had a great time!) lindsey convinced janna and gravy to go on a bacon ride in the morning. we met up at 7am at woods park and hit the road.

Trek 4300 Stolen

Folks- a buddy of mine had his bike stolen last weekend from the company's (12th & L St) bike rack. If you, by chance, see it please let us know by posting.
Bike Description: TREK 4300 Blue, Silver and Red / One of the pedals does not have a reflector/ no kickstand. Here is a stock pic of it.
The description is very vague and the bike is somewhat common. But you never know. Worth a shot.

BREAKING NEWS

Team Nebraska Triathlon hosted a duathlon at Pioneers Park this morning. While duathlons and triathlons are generally individual sports, a record number of team competitors showed up today. In the women's team division KimC took the gold, while fellow Lincoln Roadies, RonN and JoeM placed very well in their respective categories. KevinB toughed it out as an individual competitor, but the real story was the unusually large showing of teamFIRE members, including the infamous toodler KevinW. KevinW, who prefers to be called the Infamous One, represented teamFIRE well with a first place podium finish in the CoEd team division. When asked about his spectacular performance, the Infamous One simply said, "I've moved to the dark side and I like it. No more toodling for me." His fellow teamFIRE members Nicol, Katie, Mark and Janna, all of which placed in the top three in their divisions, agreed that it is scary how quickly KevinW is adapting to the dark side. Janna remarked how the Infamous One showed no remorse when using his frame pump to gain an advantage during the race. Though she thought it was an unnecessary advantage, as his superior riding skills were more than enough to win. When asked why he chose to participate in the team competition rather than the individual category, the Infamous One responded that he needed a partner to slow him down or the race would have been too easy. None of the other competitors complained that the hilly 4 mile run and 13 mile bike ride were easy. KevinW on the other hand, plans to use this so called easy race as the starting point for his ruthless entrance into the dark side of racing. Before departing to eat up some more road miles, he warned all toodlers to beware, the Infamous One is on the prowl and is looking to turn others to the dark side.

Wilderness Park Trail Maintenance this weekend!

We're looking for volunteers to come out on Saturday and/or Sunday to help repair the damage to the trails recently dished out by Mother Nature. There are a lot of downed trees to be chainsawed, weeds to be wacked, and debris to be removed off the trail. Expect significant over growth of vegetation and lots of mosquitoes.

All those that ride the trails on a regular basis are encouraged to come out for a couple of hours to put in your trail work dues.

When: Saturday and Sunday 10 AM to 3 PM
Where: Wilderness Park - meet at the Old Cheney trailhead
What to bring: weed wackers, lopers, work gloves, insect repellent, water, and snacks

Please wear long pants and some eye wear for your protection. T.H.O.R. and the city will have release forms to sign.

Thanks!

Kevin W. on the ProTour

Here is Kevin W. getting ready to race on the ProTour - he does need to work on his fitness a bit. There are reports that he will spend more time riding, and less time messing with photoshop, so he should be back to mid-season form soon.

Are you sure the sign in question didn't resemble something more like this?
I hear they're starting to pop up around the area. :)

N. 14th St and Raymond Road

Was just informed the these signs went up on N. 14th Street and On Raymond Road. A sign of what's to hit Lincoln soon?

teamFIRE Wednesday Ride

Don't forget that the teamFIRE signature "No Rider Left Behind" ride will begin in just a few weeks. Early spring ride starts Wednesdays at 5:30pm from the S.27th & Hwy2 north bench. This is a great group ride for all starters wanting to get some miles in with other beginner riders as a group. This is a NO Rider Left behind ride so no need to worry about coming back alone...one of the teamFIRE riders will be there to help you get back to town. This is a non-racer pace.
If you are looking for a bit faster pace join us Tuesday nights at 5:30pm, same location for a faster pace ride (starting in a few weeks also). More details to come.

ALL WELCOME!
